Hampton VA: Kenneth W. Teets, 77, died at home, surrounded by those he loved, on Sunday, November 18, 2007, after a brief illness. Born in Friendsville, Md., he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and married the former Encie Odell Rhodes in 1954. A submariner and Chief Radioman, Teets served aboard the diesel submarines USS Redfin and the USS Cubera. He also served 10 years of his Navy career on destroyers. He retired from the Navy in 1967 after service during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War A resident of Norfolk since 1954 and a Garrett County, Md., native, he had moved to Hampton in September 2007. Born in Friendsville, Md., he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and married the former Encie Odell Rhodes in 1954. He served 20 years as a telecommunications supervisor in the U.S. Civil Service, retiring in 1988. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Encie; and his daughter, Tracey Teets Schwarze. The youngest of 10 children, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Ward Teets; his parents, Harvey and Pearl Teets; and his brothers, Arthur, Ivan, Stanley "Jim", Glenn and June. He is survived by sisters, Rose Laub of Confluence, Pa., and Mildred Umbel of Friendsville, Md.; and brothers, Orval Teets of Swanton, Md., and Warren Teets of Lakeland, Fla.; and more than 250 nieces and nephews.
